Planning Permission Update: November 2023
We would like to announce that we have now officially applied to Moray Council for planning permission to build a Surf Skate park for Lossie!
If you've been following our journey, you'll know that we've been working on this since 2014, and are hoping that 2024 will see us gain full planning approval, and that the long awaited park will be built and used before the Summer is out
We had to find a unique niche to ensure that this Skatepark would attract funding and support, as well as ensure that all ages and abilities were catered for, and this is why we have been working hard to bring a Surf Skatepark to the area Lossie Skatepark will have levels of progression throughout, which will cater to wee toddlers on their first scooter or skateboard, to those who skate regularly with ease.
We would like to thank Bendcrete Skate Parks for designing the park, and working hard to ensure that we are able to get as much park as possible for the budget available. With the costs of concrete rising significantly, they have done an amazing job to provide the very best possible design for Lossie
Thanks also to Lossiemouth Community Development Trust for supporting this project from the start.
And thank you to the Lossiemouth and wider community, who have been invaluable throughout the process, with input, ideas, volunteering, highlighting our project, and supporting us from day one.
We will update you soon with opportunities to help us fundraise for the Lossie Skatepark Initiative's contribution to the park - this is the amount we must raise within the community.
Keep your fingers crossed please, that this planning application goes super smoothly, and that we'll all be enjoying Lossie's Skatepark in Summer 2024!!
With gratitude,
Team LSI

Pre-planning Update: May 2023
The Moray Council were generally happy with the pre-planning application, making any concerns or queries known, and also addressing the access points etc. We as a committee are now ready to submit the full planning application to Moray Council. This may take some time, but we will update as soon as we can. This is a very exciting step on our journey toward a surf style skatepark for Lossiemouth! In the meantime, we will be organising fundraising events and opportunities, holding public meetings to try and engage even more interest in supporting the project through fundraising and promotion, and working towards building a strong link with local schools to inspire further engagement with young people.
Committee Meeting/AGM: May 2023
Due to a backlog from Covid 19, the pre-planning application took longer than expected to gain a decision, and at 12 weeks, we as a committee met on 5th May 2023 to discuss following up with the Moray Council. We also had a discussion regarding fundraising opportunities, scheduling public meetings, Seafest 2023, and working to continue to build connections with the local community, engaging both school children and adults. We have had fantastic support and input so far, and we are keen to get as many members of the local community involved with fundraising and supporting the next stages of the project as possible.
Pre-Planning Application placed to Moray Council: February 2023
With a finalised design for the surf style skatepark, we put forward a pre-planning application to Moray Council. This application included our skatepark design, surrounding landscaping, and specifics for the skatepark build, such as access points etc. The pre-planning consultation at Moray Council is expected to be completed within a 6 week time frame. In the meantime, we as a committee are looking at ways that we can continue to engage the local community, especially school pupils, to start holding fundraising events, to inspire more inclusion of the younger local community, and to move forward with the project as quickly as possible.
General LSI background work: August 2022 - February 2023
During this period, we as a committee worked to build relationships with the local community and other community groups, taking on board comments from the local community, discussing any queries and concerns, and ensuring an open line of communication. We also engaged with the Moray Council to determine what specific needs were to be met on their part for pre-planning, as well as discussing as a committee about setting up fundraising activities from Summer 2023. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we had been set back in our efforts to bring Lossie a surf style skatepark, and so we had been working double time as a committee to progress the project as much as possible.
Seafest 2022: August 2022
Seafest 2022 was the perfect opportunity to showcase the initial design that won Bendcrete the tender to build the Lossiemouth Surf style skatepark. Alongside this initial design was associated documents, costing expectations, fundraising activities, and information about our next steps. The local community were invited to attend a design discussion meeting, both via our community outreach through Seafest, and online platforms.
Outcome of Public Contract Scotland Applications: April 2022
After much thought and discussion, the LSI Committee have chosen 'Bendcrete' as the official skatepark builder for the Lossiemouth Surf style Skatepark. All members of the committee made a unanimous decision to move forward with this company, based on their initial design, associated documents and their professional manner. Our next step is to meet with the wider community to involve them in design concepts, including offering information and welcoming suggestions at our Seafest stall, and further public meetings.
Project Listed on Public Contracts Scotland: December 2021
Seafest Lossiemouth Fundraising Stall: August 2021
Community Asset Transfer Approved (Land): February 2021
WE DID IT!! WE HAVE SECURED THE LAND FOR THE SKATEPARK!!
We are so happy with this successful outcome - a massive thank you to the following for the guidance and support through this challenging stage: Moray Council, Moray Council Community Support Officers, LCDT, Local Councillors, all other Lossie groups, Alan Jones Associates, all funders to date and all our loyal LSI supporters! Thank you all so much! |

Local Community Co Op Fundraising: November 2019
£6000 raised for Impact Assessments: August 2019
Thanks to kind donations from the public, local businesses and our own fundraising efforts, we have managed to raise the £6000 to complete the Noise, Light and Drainage Impact Assessments, as requested by the Moray Council!! Now that these are fully done and dusted, we are gearing up to make our final application to Moray Council for a CAT (Community Asset Transfer) of the proposed land for the skatepark. We have a few hoops to jump through yet, but the ball is once again rolling towards a skatepark for Lossie!

Fundraising Ceilidh Night: March 2019
We held a Ceilidh night on Saturday 23rd March in Lossie Town Hall, to raise some much needed funds for the Skatepark project. Doors opened at 7:30pm and the band played from 8pm until late. This event aimed to help raise funds to cover the £6000 fee to have three impact assessments done on the proposed skatepark site. Many thanks to Deli-Cious and Forty Four for selling tickets for us!

Fundraising Beach Clean: February 2019
Launch of Crowdfunder (Impact Assessment Costs): January 2019
We have been working closely with Moray Council to secure a lease for a section of land in the Coulardbank Playing Fields. At the moment, our application is on hold as we need to secure funding to cover the cost of a Noise Impact Assessment, a Light Impact Assessment and a Drainage Impact Assessment. These assessments are vital to the progression of the skatepark project, and they must be carried out by professionals in the industry. We have an estimated figure of £6000 to cover the cost of all three of these assessments combined. We are seeking support from the local community, local businesses and anyone who feels they can help with this. As a group we are planning several fundraising activities that will commence in early February 2019 to help raise funds for this aspect of the project. If you'd like to donate to the cause, please click "support us now" in the Crowdfunder link here ->

We held a stall at the Lossie Raft Race, which is an annual event organised by RAF Lossiemouth personnel. We received lots of encouraging comments from everyone that attended our stall, and we also managed to raise a significant amount of funds for our project. Our 'Guess the Square' was extremely popular with the public, with the grand prize being the giant trailer of wood as seen in the photo. Congratulations to Barbara Mitchell who won the whole lot!

Survey Monkey: June 2018
We have launched a very important survey online, which we really need you to help us with! It takes less than 5 minutes to fill out, and is as easy as click, click, click! Please could you fill one out yourself, and then share with everyone you know via facebook, whatsapp, messenger and email? We can't get a skatepark without at least 100 of these being completed. Thanks everyone!
|

Learning Visits: June 2017
LSI organised a bus trip to several skateparks throughout Moray and the Highlands. The event saw in excess of 40 people coming along to learn more about different designs and qualities of skateparks. We also met with James King (Creative Skate Store and Highland Skate Park Association) who spoke at length about the process of designing, funding, building and maintaining skateparks. The day was a huge success, with the LSI acquiring an abundance of knowledge to take us forward to the next steps of our project. All youngsters who attended the event, gave plenty of feedback and suggestions, and rated the day as extremely useful and enjoyable.

What a great day! Thanks to the Co Op, Bam Nuttall, Lossie Community Centre, Forres Skatepark Initiative, Lossiemouth Community Development Trust, and all the members of the public who made it an amazing and successful day! Thanks also to all the teens/young adults who came to skate, and were so patient and encouraging with the wee kids trying a ramp for the first time - you guys are a credit to Moray! Big thanks to anyone we've forgotten to mention - we're all exhausted and brains are fried! We have some great pics of people who skated and scooted today! If you missed today's event, you have another chance to give it a go at Seafest in July!

Skatepark Design Competition: June 2015
We invited entries from local Primary and Secondary Schools, to design their own skatepark. Here are some photos of the entries that came in - there were some excellent designs!
We also had an ideas wall for people to share ideas, and let us know what they were looking for in a skatepark for Lossiemouth. |
